Throughout the day I will be attempting to transcribe some of the more poignant thoughts shared by Drew Frey, Kenbrell Thompkins, Brandon Mills, and Brendon Kay about their time here.

For point of reference Brendon Kay is attempting to gain a 6th year of eligibility, but that paperwork is early in the execution. Senior linebacker Greg Blair (Leading Tackler) will be on the Bearcats next fall with the ability to compete again.

This interview was conducted by me, one-on-one with Kenbrell Thompkins after 11/20 practice.

Did you meet the goals you set for yourself at Cincinnati?
To be honest with you, I haven't really set no goals like that. I just wanted to come out here and just play the sport that I love whatever the outcome was.

Which guys will you track after you leave, to see how they do with UC? Beyond hoping the team continues to win, which teammates will you keep track of their progress?
Uhh, I am close friends with the guys in the Wide Receiver Room, Anthony McClung. That is a guy, I'm pretty sure we will still have a relationship, after I leave this place. Chris Moore, he got tremendous talent. I am looking forward to see what he does next year, but like I said I am close friends with a lot of these guys. Hopefully me and a lot of these guys stay in touch.

Are you looking to play at the next level?
Aww, that's really a question? Man, definitely, man. God willing its just time to just go out here and just do what I do. If God had that plan for me hopefully I will be there next year.

I would imagine you are going to have a great shot. If you do NOT play another down beyond January of this upcoming year have you done enough in your life as a football player to be able to look back and say you did all you wanted?
(Pause) I graduate December 15th. That is a big accomplishment for me and I am honored and I am grateful for that. Football is something that I love to do and I think about it every day. It is something that I definitely hope for in my future. I am pretty sure that I will get a chance. It is just basically taking advantage of that chance and being consistent in my work and loving what I do. I am pretty sure next year you will be seeing me in an NFL uniform. No question about it.

Are you proud of yourself and of what you have done here at Cincinnati?
I am grateful. Coming from where I am from a lot of people don't get this opportunity to be doing what I am doing. I could be home right now doing nothing.

    Yeah.
Doing stuff that is just not positive, so I am thankful that I am away from all of that and that I am here doing something that I love to do.

Spiritual person. Do you think that is on God, or did you pull yourself to this place?
Man, I don't do nothing for me. Everything that I do is for God. I don't do nothing for nobody. Everything that I do I try to just live right and I try to accomplish things that I set. My bathroom mirror I got goals. My first goal on there is to 'Obey God' and that is what I am doing. Obeying God and what God have for me will be the end result of my life.

    Thank you KT.
    Thank you.

Last go around. At home. What is going to be going through everybody's mind when they parade out their Friday?
For the seniors it is going to be an emotional experience, I am sure. I am really looking forward to it. It is going to be a little overwhelming but at the same time it is still a game. We prepare the same way. We are going to be ready and prepared to go into battle.

What is after that? You go to UConn. Then you sweat out bowl postings, but that is a good thing.
We still have some opportunities ahead of us, the opportunity to win ten games. You can't win ten games without winning number 8. That is our focus this week. We have to get that win. It is going to be a great night for the seniors.

Who has impressed you the most with his personal and athletic growth over the years?
You have to go with Brendon Kay. He has battled through a lot of adversity so it is really nice to see him come out and lead us to victory. Just to see his struggles that he has overcome and the path he has taken. It is great to watch him play.

Does he have the "it" factor?
I think he does. He is a great leader for us. He is a great vocal leader. He is really just a model of consistency. He is a person I like to look up to.

A lot of your adult life has been at UC.
It might flood me. I might be emotional a little bit. I am trying not to think about it right now. I have had a long career here, but it has been a great career. I have struggled with some adversity but it has rounded me into the person I am today. I like to think I have learned a lot from this game, from the university. TO be able to take those lessons with me in the future it means a lot.
