Hey y'all, I finally got the chance to follow up with 2025 four-star tight end Eli Owens last night. He visited UC for the Oklahoma game and wanted to get some feedback from him.

Owens is now at 18 scholarship offers, but he's been more selective with his visits. Aside from the UC/Oklahoma game, he was at Virginia Tech for its season-opener and at nearby Tennessee for its game Sept. 9. Owens goes to the same high school as the Bearcats' Isiah Cox, though he's four years younger, so there's not a massive connection there.
The OU game was the first time Owens said he visited UC with the new staff in place. But he did visit Louisville last season, so he knows Scott Satterfield and the coaches who came from there. Last season, Owens said he visited UC for the Navy game, so he said seeing Oklahoma was a big upgrade. "The atmosphere was amazing, the fans were in it the whole game, the student section was wild and everyone was getting hype," he told me.
Specifically, it's assistant coach Josh Stepp who's been the main recruiter here. And that relationship extends back to Louisville, which helps. Owens called him, "one of my favorite people." They might not talk every day, but it sounds like it's close. And overall, Owens said he likes the direction of the program in the Big 12, how there's good recruiting classes coming in and the history of using the tight end that the program is.
Tennessee, as you can guess, is one of the favorites here. He lives about 20-30 minutes from campus, so he's grown up going to games, being around plenty of stuff with the Vols. And Virginia Tech, he loves how the Hokies use tight ends and the relationship he has with the coaches. On his visit, Owens said he noticed how VT used four tight ends on one drive.
Coming up, Owens said he'll be at Ohio State on Saturday for its game against Maryland. But nothing else is set right now. He told me he wants to see Michigan. He'd really liked what he was hearing from Wisconsin, but he said the staff hasn't talked to him in a few months, so he's pretty much crossed the Badgers off.
Overall, a top eight is coming. But I think UC is sitting in about a top four there, with VT, Tennessee and possibly Ohio State. Owens said he wants to decide sometime in the spring. Now, the Bearcats need to get him back on campus, maybe for another game, but definitely after the season.
Full story coming.
