Hey guys, I talked with arguably the biggest football visitor UC had at its game Saturday with Miami (OH), Amir Herring. Unofficial visit, obviously, but he went without having an offer. He left the visit with one from the Bearcats, however, after they saw he was interested enough to visit. Herring has 14 offers now, after the UC one.
Herring said the trip was his first for any reason to Cincinnati. He said he loved the environment and said everything was great from start to finish. Herring said he believes the program is "on the rise" and cited the possibility of going to the Big 12 as a big reason why he's interested. Not surprising. If that goes through, that really adds to the perception UC already has.
Assistant coach Ron Crook is the main recruiter and that should show the importance UC has already placed on Herring. That's not necessarily his area, but when the position coach steps in, that's a great sign. I think UC just wasn't sure how serious Herring was. Since he made the trip, unofficially, without an offer, it's clear he's definitely interested in UC. Herring said he also likes Crook and specifically cited the development he made with James Hudson as one reason for his interest.
It's still early here, but the Bearcats seem to have jumped into a great position. He'll be at Michigan Saturday for the Washington game, so we'll see how much the in-state pull is. He has a long list of schools he hopes to visit, like LSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Notre Dame and Michigan State. So, very early here. But again, a great sign for UC since he had such a great visit.
Full story coming.
