Guys, I just talked with one of UC's targets in Ohio for the 2022 class, three-star OL Carter Smith. No top list or anything yet, but it's coming very soon. And he just visited the Bearcats and others over the past month, which also helps a lot in gauging his interest.
Smith told me he was at UC last month, though he wasn't sure the date. He told me he and his family did an ACC swing of Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, and Pittsburgh. Then, they went to UC and Indiana separately. With the Bearcats, Smith said he loves the architecture and uniqueness of all the buildings on campus. But he also has a close family friend who attends school at UC and who gave Smith and his family a tour of campus. The friend does not play football, but sounds like Smith is close with them.
Assistant coach Ron Crook has been the main assistant coach here. And Smith said he likes the relationship he's built, including the personality and humor he's seen from Crook. Smith said he told Crook where he works, at a restaurant that makes smoothies, and Crook has sent mail to the restaurant, with funny messages like "Make those the best smoothies ever!" and things like that. It seems to be working.
I do think UC is very comfortably in whatever top list Smith releases on April 15, his birthday. It also sounds like Indiana could also be at the top, along with an ACC school or two. But I really think right now, this is between UC and Indiana. He made a point not to let me put anything that would lean with both of those schools, which helps me think those are the top two. Again, it helps that he's seen both and that they're both close by.
We'll see more next month, but for now, the Bearcats are in good position.
Full story coming.
