Guys, just talked with a guy who remains a huge target for UC: three-star linebacker Chris Paul. The Bearcats worked him hard for over a year, then he committed to Nebraska back in March.
I'd heard rumblings that UC was still recruiting here and Paul confirmed as much. He was quick to say he's still committed, but he also quickly said he was still listening to other schools. He gave me three schools he's still talking to: UC, Louisville and Georgia State, though it's mostly been the first two. "I'm locked in with Nebraska, but if something better comes, I’ll take that opportunity," he told me.
Paul said he talks mostly with assistant coach Gino Guidugli, but that he's also been talking with Marcus Freeman and coach Luke Fickell. It's Guidugli, though, that he really is in the best with. "From the day he offered, it was an instant bond," Paul said. "We talk about life itself, not just ball."
Louisville is also hanging in. Assistant coach Derek Nicholson is the primary recruiter here and it sounds like they've developed a good bond. Paul said Nicholson recruited his cousin, Sherrod Ruff, when he was at Southern Miss. So there's that connection. But Paul also likes that they talk about more than football, too.
It's not often that UC goes toe to toe with a school like Nebraska, but that's what's happening here. It doesn't sound like Louisville is a huge threat for the time being. But I think the biggest things are, Paul is realizing more just how far away Nebraska is, and he loves Guidugli. Paul also visited last fall, so that helps. He was supposed to officially visit next month, but that obviously won't happen. No timetable here, but I expect the Bearcats to be in this one til the end. And it would not surprise me if they pull it off and pull Paul away from the Huskers.
Full story coming.
