Guys, just talked a little earlier with one of UC's top targets for 2021. And it's another local product, Roger Bacon (OH) four-star RB Corey Kiner.
Kiner told me he's now up to 23 offers. And these are some big ones, like Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Tennessee. But the Bearcats have made him a priority. And he told me the only two places he's visited over the last few months were Michigan, for the Ohio State game, and UC. He's actually been to UC twice: for the Temple game and last month when a bunch of guys were on official visits, on Dec. 14.
Assistant coach Doug Phillips is the primary recruiter here and Kiner said he likes the relationship they have. But the biggest recruiters might be the local guys from Cincinnati who have signed, most notably, Evan Prater. Kiner and Prater seem to be very close. Kiner told me they talked a bit yesterday, while Prater was in San Antonio for the Army Game. And that might be the biggest thing the Bearcats have going, those connections.
I did ask Kiner if it would mean anything being the local guy and he told me: "It would mean something if I went to UC. I'm not a guy who has to stay in Cincinnati because I'm from there. But it would definitely mean a lot if I did go."
So right now, the Bearcats are in EXCELLENT position here. But, and it's a big BUT, Kiner said he wants to see more of his offers, to make a good judgment on everyone. My guess is he won't be able to get to more than a handful, so the fact that he's so familiar with UC is huge. He said he's been to about five schools and listed UC, Ohio State and Michigan as some. But while he doesn't have any planned visits, he did mention Penn State and Pitt as two he wants to see.
So it'll be very telling where he goes and how those trips go this spring. I know he'll be back at UC at some point, likely for at least one junior day. But watch this one very, very closely.
Full story coming.
