Guys, just now getting a chance to post this, but last night I talked to one of UC's 2022 targets, Frederick Douglass (Ky.) wide receiver Dane Key. I wanted to reach out to him, since he's steadily added more offers of late, from Virginia Tech this week. That gives him nine total, also including Oregon, Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisville.

With UC, Key got the offer on Jan. 30. He told me he made a visit to Clifton last fall, so he has seen campus. I will say, Frederick Douglass, the newest school in Lexington, is a school UC has hit hard in the past couple of years. Devin Neal was committed to the Bearcats until he flipped to Baylor in December and UC has offered pretty much every other top kid out of there, too.

Assistant coach Gino Guidugli is the point man here, as he is for the other prospects from the school. Key called him a 'cool dude' and said the most memorable thing from Guidugli is when he visited for a game (Key doesn't remember which one), Guidugli told him the first play he was gonna run in the game. Sure enough, he picked that play, and Key said it went for a 20-yard gain. So, obviously, Key was impressed with that.

I asked about Kentucky, since he's a few minutes away and Key did say he visited for a spring practice a few weeks back. But he insists that location won't affect him. He does like how much the Wildcats have recruited him, but it's not a definite. He is a legacy there, though, since his father, Donte Key, played with UK in the early 90s. If you're looking for another connection, look at Western Kentucky. His brother, Devon Key is a junior DB for the Hilltoppers. So expect them to stay in it til the end.

Ohio State and Purdue are where he wants to visit whenever he can, but I'd expect this recruitment to go into next year. Key does have two seasons of high school football left, so he's got plenty of time.

Full story coming.
