Guys, I just got off the phone a little while ago with three-star forward Daniel Nixon. He's up to 14 offers now, including Georgetown, Wake Forest, Wichita State, Ole Miss, Temple and Penn State.
UC has not offered, but has been in contact since last summer. Same goes for others getting in the picture, like Iowa, Auburn and Seton Hall. The main reason is Nixon is coming off an injury that kept him out of the Peach Jam last July. It sounds like he rebounded well during his junior season, but some coaches were still skeptical.
With the Bearcats, Nixon said he has talked mostly with assistant coach Jayson Gee. Nixon said they talk "every other day" and he likes hearing how Gee talks about his weaknesses, as well as his strengths. But overall, Nixon thinks he could fit into UC's style of play. He said he can guard any position and he likes to get to the basket. Again, no offer, though Nixon does want to get to Clifton whenever he can.
The team to beat, by far, though, is Wake Forest. He brought up the Deacs multiple times unprompted, which is always a sign. The offer came from the last staff, but was reaffirmed by coach Steve Forbes and the new one. Nixon has visited, last fall, and this fall, he's transferring to Winston Salem Prep (NC), which is just a stone throw away. So expect the staff to be around him and vice versa, even more. Nixon is originally from New York and is there now, working with Team Durant on the EYBL league in practice, with a few events coming up.
Nixon has also visited Seton Hall, Temple and Penn State. He listed a ton of schools that he's hearing from. Besides UC, he said Iowa, Tulsa, Wake, Ole Miss, ECU, Auburn, UCF and Wichita State. It's hard to say what kind of chance the Bearcats have, since they haven't offered. But Wake is by far the team to watch here.
Full story coming.
