Hey guys, I had A chance to catch up with new UC commit Gavin Grover to get the run down on his commitment, which he made public yesterday.
Grover actually committed to assistant coach Josh Stepp on Thursday. And there was the usual, cryptic post on social media. I don't think it was a huge surprise, though, including to us, that it was Grover.
Grover called it a "Humongous weight lifted off my shoulders." Even when Grover visited other schools, he just kept coming back to UC. It sounds like he likes the city, the campus and the surroundings even more than the program and staff. No knock on them, but just trying to say almost regardless of who the coach was, UC would have been a top school for him.
The two things Grover talked a lot about are how much he got to know and came to like Stepp and the history of tight ends the Bearcats have. I think that was a HUGE piece here, as he wants to follow in the footsteps of Travis Kelce, Josiah Deguara, Josh Whyle and Leonard Taylor. Some good stuff here that I'll have in the full story.
One interesting thing to note is that Grover right now is 6 foot, 6 inches and about 230 pounds. The goal is to get him up tp 250 or 260, which would make him a hell of a force. Grover talked about high-pointing the ball in the end zone. But remember, he also plays volleyball, which has made him quite agile and he believes that's helped him with things like sideline catches and keeping his feet in-bounds.
There are others, but Grover told me the recruit he's working most on right now is QB Samaj Jones. UC is in his top four, along with Penn State, West Virginia and Oklahoma. We've known he's been coveted, but Grover reiterated just how much of a push the Bearcats are making for him.
Full story on Grover coming.
