Guys, I just got off the phone with one of UC's latest offers, Palatine (Ill.) three-star wide receiver Jacob Bostick. He's up to 18 offers now, most recently from Kansas State yesterday and UC last week. For some reason, the power fives just haven't pushed here. But that's opened the door for the Bearcats for sure.
Bostick said he doesn't have any official visits set yet. But like most recruits, he plans to take four starting June 4. And unless something changes, that will be to UC, Kansas State, Illinois and Pittsburgh. Those last three are the only power five schools to offer so far.
With UC, assistant coach Mike Brown has been the primary recruiter. And Bostick said he has talked a lot with not only Brown, but coach Luke Fickell and some of the other recruiting staff and GAs. Bostick said two nights ago he was on a Zoom call with Brown for an hour and a half and got a facilities tour and specifics on the team's video and graphic production. That was one thing that Bostick specifically said he loved seeing and hearing is the branding done by the university and football program. He said Brown, Fickell and others he's talked to have also embraced Name, Image, Likeness and have been giving him tutorials on how he can maximize that, how UC would help him and possibilities moving forward, including with upcoming video games like EA Sports' announced NCAA Football video game.
"They talked about the NCAA game, which is crazy," Bostick told me. "Being able to be in that is super exciting."
It sounds like the biggest hurdle by far will be Illinois. I think UC and the Illini are neck and neck, but Bostick was excited and giddy when talking about Illinois. He loves the communication he has with the staff, said they talk on nearly a daily basis, and loves the personalities of the staff. Bostick said he and his family had a long, over an hour Zoom with the staff last night and said "it was phenomenal."
Kansas State just offered yesterday, so there's interest, but it's a bit early for Bostick to say much. And Pitt, he has a good relationship, but he's just not as perked up and as excited as when he was talking about UC and Illinois. It will be interesting to see not only what all his five officials will be, but when. My guess is UC and Illinois will be the first ones and could be the last ones. He wouldn't give me a date, but said he's already trimming things down, from talking to his family.
Full story coming.
