Guys, I talked earlier with a guy who UC has been on for a while, Ballard (Ky.) three-star DE Jadairion Smith. He told me he's visiting Indiana unofficially this weekend and has also been to UC and Louisville this summer on unofficial visits.
Smith said he stays in contact regularly with Bearcats assistant coach Greg Scruggs. He told me he likes how Scruggs has been honest with him from day one. Smith said Scruggs has told him to keep working to get out of the rough neighborhood he lives in, in Louisville. But while Smith told me, "I still look at them as an interest to go," he also told me he's unsure of UC a bit. Smith pointed to how the Bearcats have a few DE commits already, in Tyler Gillison and Jonathan Thompson. But he also said Scruggs has assured him the offer is still legit.
Still, it sounds like IU and Louisville have moved ahead here. Smith has yet to see the Hoosiers in-person but just went on and on about coach Tom Allen. He said that's the main reason he wants to visit this weekend. And with U of L, he likes the pipeline of local guys there, including a few former teammates. Smith also said he likes the campus and the brotherhood there.
Now, a couple of notable points here that could really change a lot. First off, Smith is recovering from a shoulder injury (thinks it's a partially torn labrum) that has limited him since last season. He said he's practicing full right now, but it's something to watch. Also, if all goes according to his plan, Smith said he plans on transferring in the next week or two to Deerfield Beach (Fla.). He cited Jerry Jeudy as an alum there and likes the coaches he's gotten to know there through a connection. That's not a definite and since he asked me to keep it on the DL, I won't mention it in the story I'll post after this. Still, that could change the schools that come in on him very soon. Just something to watch.
Again, full story coming.
