Guys, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Colerain (OH) athlete Ja'Von Hicks, just to see where he stands with UC and a recruitment overall.

One big reason I called was that new UC commit Josh Whyle specifically mentioned Ja'Von as a kid he was recruiting. And Hicks said he likes that aspect, of playing with Whyle. Hicks even told me, "Being able to play with a former teammate or friend is what I'm looking for." So I specifically asked if he knew anyone playing anywhere else. All he talked about was the guys at, going to UC or looking at UC, like Whyle, Blake Bacevich and Taj Ward.
He also seems to have a great relationship with the whole staff. Hicks said coach Luke Fickell has personally reached out to him a lot, which seems to really resonate with Hicks. He talks with assistant coaches Joker Phillisp, Jon Tenuta and Marcus Freeman a lot too. And each have told him something different, that they like about him, how they'll help him or other things.
Hicks really likes the aspect of playing close to home, which is about 15 minutes away. He told me he goes to UC almost once a week. But this one isn't over. Hicks has a visit planned April 15 to Louisville and said he also wants to see Duke, Penn State and Michigan State later this spring and into the summer.
Still, this kid might have the best odds to be the next Bearcats commit. I'd put him at an early summer decision. After everything he told me, it's hard to see anyone overtaking UC as the favorite. Louisville has an outside shot, but there's no offer there right now.
Full story coming.
