Guys, I talked with 2022 three-star wide receiver Kaydin Pope. He's a kid who's been getting a lot of buzz recently and has 10 offers, of late from Indiana, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech. UC offered a scholarship in June.
Pope hasn't made any college visits this year due to the pandemic, but said he did go to games last season at Arkansas, Miss St, Ole Miss, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech. So he has something to base things on, but not much. And at this point, I don't think he favors any school or even a couple of schools. But he now realizes he's bigger than places like EKU and Tennessee Tech.
With the Bearcats, Pope said assistant coach Greg Scruggs is the one who offered, but since then, he's talked mostly with assistant coach Mike Brown. That's surprising, but not, because Brown did have a hand in the offer and would also be his position coach at UC. There's been a handful of schools that have talked about Pope playing both WR and DB (Tennessee and Kentucky), but the majority, including the Bearcats, like him best at wide receiver.
Pope has never been to Cincinnati. But he does really like Brown and said they communicate a couple of times a week. Pope said he also enjoys the mail they send him regularly throughout each week. He called Brown "an honest guy for sure." So there's some positive perception there, it's just too early to say a lot right now.
This is a kid I can't see much movement on for a while. Since he's in the 2022 class, he's hopeful for a lifting of restrictions soon and is biding his time until then. He has taken virtual visits with Duke and Ole Miss, but said it's tough to get much out of those.
Full story coming.
