Guys, I just got off the phone with Findlay (OH) 2023 DL Luke Montgomery. He's up to 10 offers, most recently from Kentucky and Virginia Tech. UC offered Oct. 5.
The important thing to keep in mind is Montgomery did visit UC in-person this past fall, on Nov. 28. He told me he and his parents walked around campus, then ate lunch and watched some games. They actually went inside Nippert Stadium, though there was no Bearcats game that weekend. COVID tests forced the cancellation of the game with Temple.
Montgomery told me he really loved his UC visit. He wasn't allowed to see the coaches or staff in person, of course, but he said he'd FaceTimed with assistant coach Brian Mason, who filled him on on things to see and where to go. Mason has been the primary recruiter here and Montgomery said he really remembers seeing and liking the athlete dorms on campus. He also likes the number of guys from the Toledo area who have done well at UC, as he specifically mentioned James Hudson.
The only other in-person visit Montgomery made this fall was to Penn State on Halloween weekend. He also liked that visit, which he made with a few Penn State 2022 commitments. They toured campus, then ate dinner and watched the Ohio State/Penn State game at the restaurant. It sounds like Montgomery also likes Kentucky a bit too. His trainer is the same as Jedrick Wills, now with the Cleveland Browns, and Montgomery said he has been a couple of times, including early in the summer.
Long way to go here, as Montgomery told me, "I’m wide open as can be." But this is likely a high-three, maybe even four-star kid who will get a ton of looks. For UC to have gotten him on campus already is a great early sign. Full story coming.
