Hey guys, I caught up with one of UC's visitors this past weekend, Bradford (Fla.) three-star athlete Manny Covey. He was on campus with his father.
Unsurprisingly, it was Covey's first trip to Clifton. He told me he sat in position meetings with the running backs and wide receivers, then had a couple of one-on-one meetings with coaches and watched spring practice on Friday. And overall, it sounds like the visit went really well. "I just loved it," Covey told me. "It felt like home."
Covey said there's been multiple coaches that he's been in contact with, but the primary one is offensive coordinator Gino Guidugli. That's who gave Covey the offer and who went to Covey's school first and talked with him and his high school coaches. Covey said Guidugli is an easy-going guy and he loved that he could talk about anything with Guidugli. And overall, I'd say the Bearcats should feel pretty good about where they are here. "They're definitely on the top of my list for sure," he told me.
The only other school Covey really mentioned was Iowa State. He doesn't have any other visits planned and hasn't been anywhere of late. Covey will see the Cyclones April 7 and 8. He does have an offer there and said the coaches have really been on him. Covey said he talks with at least one Iowa State coach on the phone about every other night.
Based on what Covey is telling me, it sounds like for now, this is between Iowa State and UC. It'll be interesting to see how that visit to Ames next month goes. There will be others who also get in the picture. He has eight offers, but I think he's waiting on others. No other school besides Iowa State seems to be competing with UC right now.
Full story coming.
