Guys, I caught up with one of UC's newest offers in the 2023 class, Wood Catholic (Pa.) tight end Markus Dixon. The Bearcats are offer No. 5, joining Texas A&M, West Virginia, Syracuse and Maryland.
Still quite early here, as Dixon has not taken any in-person visits yet. He does have two unofficials coming up, June 6 to Penn State and June 12 to Texas A&M. So those will start to at least shed some light on where his recruitment stands.
With UC, Dixon said he likes the history the program has with tight ends. He specifically mentioned Travis Kelce, as most tight ends who look at the Bearcats do. Dixon even called UC "tight end-U" which is definitely not the first time I've heard that. For any staffers reading this, you should really get behind that moniker.
Assistant coach Colin Hitschler is the primary recruiter here. And Dixon said he likes that Hitschler is from the Philadelphia area. They've only spoken once, when the Bearcats offered on Friday, but Dixon said he likes Hitschler's personality. He also said Hitschler raved about Dixon's teammate, Robert Jackson, who just signed this spring with UC. I don't get the sense that Dixon and Jackson are all that close, but they are friends and now former teammates. But the thing Dixon said he liked most is that Hitschler said Dixon reminded him of Kyle Pitts. With the success Pitts just had, that's definitely a good compliment to get.
It's still super early, since Dixon hasn't seen anywhere in-person. If anything, I'd say Penn State is the early leader, since it's close to home, but of course, the Nittany Lions haven't offered. So, lots to wait to see how it plays out this summer and fall.
Full story coming.
