Hey all, I caught up earlier with one of UC's most recent visitors, 2023 WR Micah Gifford from Texas. Only two scholarship offers to this point, from Pittsburgh and UTSA.
It sounds like the Bearcats staff is still trying to decide if it wants to go in on Gifford or not. But for his part, Gifford has shown he's very interested. He and his parents were on hand Nov. 6 for UC's homecoming game against Tulsa, his first time in the Queen City. It sounds like the trip went well. They toured facilities, saw Gameday, sat next to the student section for the game. Overall, Gifford had a glowing review.
Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock has been the main UC coach in touch here. But on the visit, Gifford said he hung around with and talked more with assistant coach Mike Brown. Makes sense, as that would be his position coach. Gifford said he liked how "chill" Brown is and loved hearing what he had to say, but there was no mention of an offer.
Gifford has been on three gameday visits this fall: UTSA, Texas and Baylor. I asked more about UTSA, since he has an offer there and he gave a positive review. Right now, because of the offer, I think that would have to be an early leader. He's never been to Pitt and doesn't sound like he has plans to right now. Gifford did talk about Rice and that he'll likely be there Nov. 27 for a game.
Hard to know if an offer will come from the Bearcats. But since he visited on his own from Texas, I think UC would jump way up with an offer here. Full story coming.
