Guys, I didn't get a chance to post it last night, but I talked with UC commit Quincy Burroughs. I hadn't talked to him since he committed in February and I'd heard rumors that he was considering other options and wanted to see exactly what he had going on.
I had been told by multiple sources that UCONN was making a run at Burroughs and was in a great position to flip him, as it had promised him playing time. I had a hard time believing Burroughs or just about anyone else would flip from UC to a school that's an FBS independent where fball is an afterthought. And it sounds like I was right, that those were just rumors. Burroughs told me UCONN, Middle Tennessee and Oregon State have all talked to him about taking officials. But Burroughs said OSU is too far and the other two he's interested in, but no visits. And I'll be pretty surprised if he takes one to either.
Burroughs said his relationship with assistant coach Mike Brown is even stronger than it was. And Burroughs still has an official visit to UC set for June 11.
"I honestly feel like it’s a countdown," Burroughs told me. "I’ve learned more, but it’s a countdown. I’m just more excited to get up and see stuff in-person, go to Cincinnati and see the coaches. I wanna feel the culture and just get up there."
I did ask Burroughs what it would take for another program to get him to flip. He told me, "They would just have to wow me," but it sounds like that likely won't happen. I think Burroughs could be open to some bigger, power five schools should those offers come along. But right now, they haven't. And as it stands, I can't see Burroughs leaving for any other offer now, based on our talk last night. So I'd say he's as solid as a commitment can be.
Full story coming.
