Guys, I chatted earlier with 2022 three-star OL Ryan Baer, from the Cleveland area. Early on, UC seemed to like him, so I wanted to see where things stood with him.
Baer said he's up to 12 offers, most recently from Purdue, West Virginia, Akron and Pitt. He hasn't taken any visits since the covid-19 pandemic set in back in March. Before that, he went to games last fall at Michigan State, Notre Dame, UC and Bowling Green. The first two have not offered.
With the Bearcats, Baer said he liked the hospitality, the support he saw from the fans and the overall atmosphere in Nippert Stadium. Assistant coach Ron Crook had talked to Baer a lot early on, including last fall. But this is the sign that UC's interest might have waned somewhat: he said he's only really been talking in recent months with director of scouting's Austin Schaffer. Baer thinks it will pick back up with Crook when coaches can reach out, but right now, there hasn't been a ton of communication.
When I asked who he thought he had the best relationship with, he told me Ohio State. I don't think he's to the caliber the Buckeyes are looking for, though, unless he really transforms his junior season. I do think Baer is a solid player and kid, but he's not an Ohio State level kid. He said Michigan has been reaching out more, so that could be an interesting one to watch when teams are allowed to contact these guys.
Still early, but I wouldn't watch this one too intently now. We'll keep monitoring.
Full story coming.
