Guys, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Riverside Military Academy (Ga.) three-star athlete Shad Dabney. He's one of UC's most recent offers in the 2021 class, which at this point, is telling how the Bearcats feel about him, with not many spots left.
Dabney said he has 25 offers. Most of these are smaller schools, like Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Old Dominion, and Louisiana-Lafayette. But he has some bigger ones, like Syracuse and Kansas, which seem to have his attention. The thing about Dabney, is that his offers are split. Most are for cornerback, but some are for wide receiver. It sounds like UC's is almost certainly DB, though the door isn't completely closed on receiver.
Dabney told me he was offered by Bearcats assistant coach Mike Brown, which is also why it's not a done deal at DB. The offer just came yesterday, so Dabney hasn't done much looking at UC yet. But he said he loved how personable Brown was, how he talked about his family and just the "positive vibes" he got from their conversation. When I asked his overall thoughts on the Bearcats, Dabney told me, "They have a dope team, a dope program," so good things early on.
The only places Dabney has visited were a pair of games at Georgia last fall (sounds like no interest there) and junior days in February to Georgia State and Georgia Southern. But I get the sense he likes Syracuse and especially Kansas. The latter, he brought up unprompted, which is always telling. Not enough for me to make a FutureCast there, but I think if he were able to visit Kansas, he might have already committed.
So much depends on when and where Dabney can visit this summer. UC is in a good spot, but probably slightly behind Syracuse and Kansas.
Full story coming.
