Guys, I talked earlier with Gillison, whom UC just offered yesterday. And I'll be honest, I'm kinda surprised more haven't offered. In a typical year, with camps and more eval, I think he would have. That's the main thing I can see here. Toledo and Akron are only other offers.
Gillison seems to have good size and hands. UC has only really been in communication here for a little more than a week. He talked this week with assistant coach Greg Scruggs, the primary recruiter, and defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman. Gillison said the conversation with UC started last week with Chad Bowden, the Bearcats' recruiting coordinator. Bowden then reached out just after midnight on Tuesday.
The early returns for UC have been encouraging. It seems like Gillison really likes the way the program looks, where it's headed and the feedback he's gotten from the coaches. He told me about the staff, "They're real cool dudes."
Gillison has only visited Toledo and Michigan State, for games last fall. And the MSU staff is completely different. So he doesn't have a ton to go on. Gillison told me that since Tuesday, he's also heard from Purdue, Penn State, Bowling Green and Pittsburgh. So more offers are coming. He is fortunate enough to be playing this season, which will help in that regard. Of course, if you're UC, you don't want others to know about him, lol.
Still super early here with no timeline. Full story coming.
