Kiel & Tyson Set For All-Star Game Appearances This Weekend
CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati football student-athletes Gunner Kiel (Columbus, Ind./East/Notre Dame) and Mike Tyson (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor/Hargrave Military) will take part in the East-West Shrine Game and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, respectively, this weekend.
The 2017 East-West Shrine Game will be held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. ET with television coverage on NFL Network. The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl also takes place Saturday, kicking off at 4:15 p.m. ET from the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The game will air live on FOX Sports 1.
Kiel, who will suit up for the west squad and wear No. 10, is the 22nd UC player to earn a spot in the Shrine Game. Former OL standout Parker Ehinger was the most recent, playing in the 2015 contest ahead of being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Kiel played in 29 career games at quarterback for UC, throwing for 6,835 yards and 56 touchdowns. He completed over 60 percent of his passes and had a QB rating of 145.5.
He is UC's career record holder in TD to INT ratio (+30), ranks fourth is attempts (833), third in completions (505), fifth in completion percentage (.606), second in passing yards (6,835), second in passing TDs (56). Kiel shares the single-game record for passing TDs with six, a mark set in his first UC game against Toledo in 2014. He had 11 career games passing for 250 yards or more and one game with 500 plus yards, a career best 523 yards at Houston in 2015.

Tyson will wear No. 37 and play for Team American, under the direction of Coach Jim Zorn. Former Bearcats WR, Mekale McKay, now with the Denver Broncos, played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl a year ago.
Tyson saw action in 43 games, making 23 starts and playing safety, cornerback and nickel back. He totaled 137 career tackles, including 7.5 for a loss, 11 passes defended and seven interceptions, five of which came in 2016. He was tabbed as a midseason All-America choice by Pro Football Focus and won the UC Jim Kelly Sr. Spirit Award. His five interceptions ranked among the top-10 in the NCAA FBS in 2016 and were the most for a UC player since DeAngelo Smith tallied eight in 2007.
