Hey all, I had the chance to catch up with Lance myself and just wanted to share a bit more info, to go along what I already posted.
*With UC, Williams' former teammate is redshirt sophomore safety Isiah Cox, who signed in the 2021 class. I think that's definitely one reason the Bearcats are in the top two. But he definitely likes the connection he has with coach Luke Fickell. I don't get the sense that he's fully connected with Mike Cummings yet. But honestly, that's a good thing, to be in the top two considering that. If he can get that connection, UC could easily jump to the top spot.
**The other big tidbit here is that Williams told me he'll be at UC April 9 for the Bearcats' spring game. He just visited Jan. 29 for junior day, but I think this is when he'll really see more of Cummings and how the rest of the staff acts and coaches on a gameday.
***Williams' father played college football at Carson-Newman University with Virginia Tech assistant coach Shawn Quinn. That's a BIG reason why the Hokies are in the top two. Williams just visited there Saturday before he went to Charlotte for the Rivals camp. He made the trip with his dad and mom, who also knows Quinn really well. Williams' parents met while they were in college. He doesn't have it set, but I wouldn't be surprised if Williams is at VT April 16 for its spring game. Doesn't conflict with UC.
Any way, I do think VT has a very slight advantage because of the connection there. But it's not a huge one. I'll be monitoring this one very closely and post any new info I come across.
