FB Recruiting INsider: Recruits On Campus Today

Guys, just a heads up that Belleville (Mich) is taking a tour of colleges this week for its spring break. Interesting that the first stop on that tour is Cincinnati. The team stopped this morning to tour the facilities quickly and speak with the staff. They've already come and gone. But some notable guys on that team who are not committed anywhere yet:
4-star Devontae Dobbs: Login to view embedded media
2021 DE Damon Payne: Login to view embedded media

Hoops Evans To Enter NBA Draft

Not really surprising, but Jacob Evans will enter the NBA Draft. I had a friend who's an NBA scout inquire about him recently. He told me that Evans was in his team's final draft report. He liked Evans' versatility. From our conversation, it sounds like Evans is a sure drafty pick, but unless he's a first rounder, Evans could return. Won't sign an agent, so that's a possibility. Thoughts?

Guys, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Dunbar (OH) three-star OL Jonathan Allen. He's had a Cincinnati offer for about a month or so, but he has 21 total. Maryland, West Virginia and Kentucky are the most recent to offer.

First off, Allen said he has a top three of Cincinnati, Ohio State and Kentucky, each of whom has offered. He made it clear from the beginning that he wants to be within about three hours of his home in Dayton. The exception would be Kentucky and Louisville, where a lot of his family is from and currently lives.

The only visit Allen has made so far is Ohio State. He likes the Buckeyes a lot and said, "It's just a good vibe." But again, he said his decision process is early because he cant compare that with anything.

With UC, Marcus Freeman and Ron Crook have been the main recruiters. He likes both, but the biggest thing to note here is that his teammate, Tavion Thomas, just signed with the Bearcats last month. And Allen said when Thomas did sign, he immediately told Allen he wanted him to join him at UC. And that's a big factor, though not the only one. The other thing is that his sister runs track and has gotten scholarship offers for Cincinnati, Penn State and Bowling Green, as far as where they both have offers. Allen said he'd love to go to the same school as her.

No set dates yet, but Allen said he's trying to get to Louisville and Cincinnati next. This one can change, but he basically said his top two are UC and Ohio State, with the Buckeyes having a slight edge. We'll see how much Thomas works on him because that could have the biggest effect.

ACC and AAC link up officiating for Football

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The American Athletic Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference have created a football officiating alliance that will handle scheduling, training and evaluation.

The American announced Monday that ACC supervisor of officials Dennis Hennigan will be the lead administrator and manage the assignment, hiring and training of game officials. Terry McAulay, who has been the American's coordinator of football officials since 2013, will no longer serve in that role. A new supervisor of football officials for the AAC will be named later.

AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco says in a statement the alliance will provide both conferences with a deep roster of officials and greater efficiency and consistency in their training and evaluation.

Hoops Chatter Off The Floor In Nashville

Guys, the great thing about the tournament, is getting to chat with quite a few folks. I've talked with Pete Thamel from Yahoo, my buddy Evan Daniels from FS1 and Cincy's Dan Hoard, to name a few. And Will Perkins is every bit of 7-feet tall lol.

Here's a few tidbits:
I tweeted earlier, talking to Cincinnati AD Mike Bohn, before the game. That tweet is below:

But I sat with Bohn briefly after the Texas/Nevada presser. He just told me, "Right now, everybody is tough. But we'll get 'em Sunday."

I also sat with assistant coach Darrin Savino during the game courtside. Right before Nevada won he told me, "That's a dangerous team right there. Lots of shooters. Tough to guard."

He also told me the team is very loose and comfortable right now after the win. Seemed to be very happy with attitudes and how they're acting right now. We'll see if that's a good omen come Sunday.

FB Recruiting ***INsider: Michael Katic Update***

Guys, just spoke a little while ago with yet another recent Bearcats offer, Pine Richland (Pa.) OL Michael Katic. He's from right outside of Pittsburgh. And while this kid has been a secret (hence no ranking yet), that's quickly changing.

Katic is up to 11 offers. Besides UC, Army, Navy and Syracuse have also recently offered. In the last month, he went to Toledo and Miami (OH) and will be at Ohio March 24. Of that group, Toledo is the visit he liked and the one that seems to be standing out a little.

With the Bearcats, Katic hasn't visited yet. But he said he'll likely go the first weekend in April for spring practice and to check out campus. Katic's main recruiter has been assistant coach Ron Crook. Katic was trying to tell me a story that Crook told him, about Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. It made him laugh, but he couldn't remember the details. Still, Katic told me, "He's a really nice guy."

Still mighty early here. It won't stick that a MAC team is out front. But that should show you how early it really is here.

FB Recruiting ***INsider: Solomon Brown Update***

Guys, I talked just a few minutes ago with one of the Bearcats' latest offers for 2019, Largo (Fla.) cornerback Solomon Brown. I know Rivals does not have him rated yet, but that won't be for long. He camped with Rivals last month in Orlando and had a solid camp from what I'm told.

Brown is now up to six offers, from Cincinnati, Syracuse, Iowa State, Boston College, Army and Rutgers. It's still early here. Brown said he hasn't made any visits this year so far. And no dates are currently set. But he's trying to take a tour north to see as many of his current offers this summer as possible.

With UC, Brown said he doesn't know a lot yet. He has spoken a few times with assistant coach Joker Phillips and said the two of them have messaged quite a bit. From the interaction they have had, Brown said of Phillips, "He’s a real cool guy." Brown said he also liked how Phillips told him he could fit into the Bearcats' rebuilding.

Brown said Boston College and Rutgers have been in contact most. He likes both, but said he remains wide open and hopes to get more offers this summer. Officials likely won't take place until the fall, so no decision is expected until late season.

Also funny to note, I had no idea, but when I called Brown, he was in the middle of a track meet, just between heats. So he wasn't busy at the moment, but I was still surprised he answered his phone. Brown runs the speed events, the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and the 4x400m. So speed is the name of the game here.
