Guys, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Jenkins (Ga.) wide receiver Tyrone Scott. He's been committed to Central Michigan since Oct. 27, but he's flirting with a few others, including Cincinnati.

The Bearcats are not new here. They offered back on Sept. 16. But they've stayed at least under the radar since Scott committed to CMU. I get the sense that he's not sold on CMU and a big part is the weather. He told me multiple times how he doesn't like the snow and obviously, they get a ton of snow in Michigan. But when I asked where Scott stands with the Chippewas, he told me, "I mean, those are my guys, at the top of my list. Me and the coaches have built a good relationship." But he also said, "Right now, I’m waiting to see what schools might knock on the door."

As y'all know, Cincy gets a fair amount of snow, even if it's not as much as Michigan. But assistant coach Joker Phillips is probably the biggest reason UC is a possibility here, though assistant coach Gino Guidugli has also been a recruiter here. Phillips made an in-home with Scott on Thursday and Scott told me, "Both show a lot of support, they keep it straight, 100 and straight forward. That was the real good thing about it."

Scott actually visited UC in October for the Central Florida game. He said he liked the vibe and the fan support, even when the game got out of hand.

The only schools in this right now are Central Michigan, UC and Georgia State. Again, Scott doesn't like the cold weather, so I think he's holding out to see if any ACC or even southern AAC or Conference USA schools offer. I'm not sure if they will, but expect him to wait til Feb. Honestly, I don't like UC's chances here. If he gets an offer I mentioned, he'll probably take it. Otherwise, he'll probably stick with C. Mich, but we'll see.

Full story coming.

Football AAC Awards

Guys, I've been under the weather the past couple of days, so I apologize for my tardiness in posting this. Post-season awards have a few UC guys on the first and second teams, including punter James Smith as the lone first-teamer:

Four University of Cincinnati football student-athletes earned All-American Athletic Conference honors and the team picked up the league's team academic award for the third-straight year, the AAC announced Wednesday.

Punter James Smith (Wangaratta, Australia/Galen College) earned a spot on the first team, with offensive tackle Korey Cunningham (Montevallo, Alabama/Montevallo) and linebacker Jaylyin Minor (Navasota, Texas/Navasota) being tabbed for second-team honors and defensive tackle Marquise Copeland(Cleveland, Ohio/Bedford) earned honorable mention accolades.

The four all-conference selections is the Bearcats most since seven players were tabbed for awards in 2015.

Hoops Gary Clark AAC POW

Guys, forgot to post this yesterday, but the AAC named Gary Clark its player of the week. From the release:
Gary Clark ∙ Sr. ∙ F ∙ Cincinnati ∙ Clayton, N.C.
Clark collected Most Valuable Player honors at the Cayman Islands Classic after Cincinnati won all three games by an average of 19.3 points. In the three wins, Clark averaged 16.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while hitting 16-of-30 shots. Clark opened the tournament by posting his 20th career double-double with a 24-point, 14-rebound effort against Buffalo, and the senior capped the championship with 17 points and six boards versus Wyoming.

FB Recruiting ***INsider: Fabian McCray Update***

Guys, I talked to one of the Bearcats' most recent offers, Phillips (Ill.) 2019 wide receiver Fabian McCray. Cincinnati made him an offer this afternoon.

The Bearcats are offer No. 3, following Toledo and Western Michigan. But McCray has interests that go back further, as he camped at UC this summer. And though he talked to assistant coach Joker Phillips mostly at the camp, it's been offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock that McCray has talked to since then and it was Denbrock who visited McCray's school today and made the offer.

McCray said he was very surprised by the offer from UC. He also told me, "I think it’s a great school and a great place to go for academics and sports."

As far as visits, McCray said he's been to games at Northwestern, Illinois and Toledo. The Wildcats invited him to a bowl practice, but that hasn't been set. And I think it would mean something if either of the two homestate schools offered. But McCray also likes Toledo a lot. He went to the Akron game about a month ago and said he likes the Rockets' offense, how they get the receivers involved.

No visits set right now. But unprompted, McCray told me, "I’m looking to get back to Cincinnati, but I don’t know when"

Guys, I'm not sure it would technically be a flip now, but Cincinnati is making a run at Ribault (Fla.) two-star cornerback Devon Matthews. He's been committed to South Florida since July, but decommitted from the Bulls this afternoon. So up until today, it would have been a textbook flip had he committed elsewhere.

Anyway, this is significant because one of the first things he told our friends at RunningTheBulls.com is that he has one official visit set. He'll be at Cincinnati Dec. 9. Wake Forest is also a contender and has been in steady contact, so don't be surprised if he visits there possibly next weekend or even Dec. 16. Mississippi State, Illinois, Temple and UCONN also are all in contact.

Check back with BearcatReport.com for more on Matthews and any other updates.
