Good, noteworthy award for Jarron Cumberland. The release this morning from UC:

University of Cincinnati guard Jarron Cumberland (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington High School) was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday.

The sophomore scored a team-high 15 points in Cincinnati’s 82-48 victory against Memphis in the league opener Sunday at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Ky. Cumberland made 6 of 9 field goals with a pair of three-pointers to go with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in 29 minutes against the Tigers.

Cumberland is averaging 11.0 points this season, third-most on the team, with 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He has scored in double figures in seven of UC’s last nine games in his first season as a starter.

Entering January, Cumberland ranks among the league leaders in three-point shooting percentage (15th at .377) and three-pointers made (tied for 14th at 1.6).

This marks the second time this season Cumberland has collected weekly honor roll accolades. He first received the recognition on Nov. 20 after leading the Bearcats in scoring in wins over Western Carolina (Nov. 13) and Coppin State (Nov. 16). Against WCU, Cumberland netted a season-high 20 points with four three-pointers before producing 19 points with four threes a few days later against Coppin State.

A member of The American’s All-Rookie Team last season, Cumberland also earned AAC Co-Sixth Man of the Year accolades while averaging 8.3 points in 19.1 minutes off the bench.
