Guys, I just got some info on the Bearcats' newest offer for the 2018 class, three-star forward Frankie Policelli. UC offered Policelli, No. 146 in the Rivals150, on Friday night.

Policelli has heard most recently from Cincinnati, Texas Tech and Dayton, which have all recently offered. Dayton also offered Friday, following Policelli's game in the Beach Ball Classic.

Policelli said he spoke today with assistant coach Darren Sevino. Policelli said they talked about how UC needs shooters and how hard the team practices. The Bearcats really like how Policelli has developed, even since the fall.

As far as Cincinnati overall goes, Policelli said he likes the conference UC plays in and how they play "gritty, hard defense." He said he also really likes Sevino and the type of coach he is.

Policelli also spoke with Texas Tech today and he said the staff texts him almost every day. They first started recruiting him a few weeks ago. Cincinnati, TT and Boston College are the schools Policelli said are recruiting him hardest. Butler has also sporadically been in touch, but like BC, has not offered.

Still early here. Policelli said he's fielding calls from coaches and staying in touch, but does not plan to take any visits until after his senior season, so look for March to be a big month. Also important to note, he's only 17, with his 18th birthday April 11. I think UC and TT are the two out in front, but it's still early. Still, expect the Bearcats to go hard at Policelli. They love his upside and how his skillset fits with what they do.

Hoops Cumberland Earns Weekly Honor

Good, noteworthy award for Jarron Cumberland. The release this morning from UC:

University of Cincinnati guard Jarron Cumberland (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington High School) was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday.

The sophomore scored a team-high 15 points in Cincinnati’s 82-48 victory against Memphis in the league opener Sunday at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Ky. Cumberland made 6 of 9 field goals with a pair of three-pointers to go with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in 29 minutes against the Tigers.

Cumberland is averaging 11.0 points this season, third-most on the team, with 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He has scored in double figures in seven of UC’s last nine games in his first season as a starter.

Entering January, Cumberland ranks among the league leaders in three-point shooting percentage (15th at .377) and three-pointers made (tied for 14th at 1.6).

This marks the second time this season Cumberland has collected weekly honor roll accolades. He first received the recognition on Nov. 20 after leading the Bearcats in scoring in wins over Western Carolina (Nov. 13) and Coppin State (Nov. 16). Against WCU, Cumberland netted a season-high 20 points with four three-pointers before producing 19 points with four threes a few days later against Coppin State.

A member of The American’s All-Rookie Team last season, Cumberland also earned AAC Co-Sixth Man of the Year accolades while averaging 8.3 points in 19.1 minutes off the bench.

Guys, I just got off the phone with one of UC's remaining 2018 targets, North Gwinnett (Ga.) linebacker Jayden McDonald. He's been committed to Rutgers since June, but did not sign last week during the first signing period.

I asked McDonald where he stands with Rutgers and he told me he's still committed. He added, "Nothing's changed. We’re still good, I feel like." But McDonald didn't sign because he told me, "I just wasn’t ready to sign at that moment."

Cincinnati has been on him for at least a few weeks now. Assistant coach Al Washington and defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman were both in to see him earlier this month during the evaluation period. McDonald said he's enjoyed talking to both, but the majority of what they've talked about is how they both want to get him to UC for a visit and talking up the campus and program.

The two to really watch for here are Ole Miss and Kansas State. McDonald has an official visit to Kansas State set for Jan. 19 and Jan. 27 at Ole Miss. He told me he also will definitely visit Rutgers, but doesn't know when. Honestly, I dont think that one will happen. I know he's 'committed' but I don't get the vibe that he wants to end up in New Jersey.

As far as the Bearcats, if they can get him to visit, there might be a legit chance. But right now, it's 50/50 if that will happen. I think the two schools he'll visit are in the lead, but UC is working on trying to at least get him up. Again, if that happens, the Bearcats have a chance, but it looks slim right now.

NOTE: Please do not copy/paste or summarize any portion of this post to other Web sites or message boards, as it is a direct violation of copyright laws. Thank you.

Guys, as you know, tomorrow is the start is the first signing period for FBS schools and Cincinnati will welcome what is a very talented 2018 class. I've reached out to all of the Bearcats' commitments to see when they're sending their letters of intent, so UC will know when to expect them on board. I'll add anything else when it becomes available, but here's what I've been told so far:

7 AM ET -- Charles McClelland, Dylan O’Quinn, Josh Whyle, Colin Woodside and Ja'Von Hicks each said they will be sending their letters in at this time. Whyle even went as far as to say he'll be sending at 7:01 on the dot.

Whyle will have a signing ceremony at his school at 8:30 am.
O'Quinn will have a signing ceremony at his school at 12:30 pm.
Woodside will have a signing day ceremony at his school at 1 pm Friday.

8 AM ET -- Ryan Montgomery said he will be sending his letter of intent to UC at this time. He'll have a signing day ceremony at his school at 5:45 pm ET on Friday

10 AM ET -- Malik Vann, Taj Ward and Yanez Rogers said they will all be sending in their LOIs at this time.

11:45 AM ET
-- Blake Bacevich said he will be sending in his letter of intent at this time.

2 PM ET -- Alec Pierce said he will be having a ceremony at his school at this time. He'll most likely sign his letter and send to UC earlier in the morning, but he's not sure what time that will take place.

3 PM ET -- Ben Bryant said he will be having a signing day ceremony at his school at this time. He'll most likely send in his letter of intent mid-morning.

Daeshon Martin and Jeremy Cooper both said they are not sure when they will be sending their letters of intent. I'll be checking back with them today.

I've reached out to Chauncey Manac, Ty Van Fossen, Darnell Shields, Arquon Bush and Jayshon Jackson and have not heard back yet. I'll be checking back with them later.

Again, more updates coming when available. More coverage coming!

FB Recruiting ***INsider: Dalrone Donaldson***

Guys, just wanted to update you all on a big target for Cincinnati who for sure won't be signing anywhere tomorrow. The Bearcats have zeroed in on Coffee County (Ga.) three-star wide receiver Dalrone Donaldson.

Cincinnati offered Nov. 21 and many (including the Bearcats' staff) have thought UC has a great shot in large part because he decommitted from Central Michigan the next day. And assistant coaches Gino Guidugli and Joker Phillips have both made in-home visits with him the past two weeks.

Right now, I can without a doubt say the Bearcats are the clear leader. But it might not stay that long. Donaldson basically feels like he can do better. Not to put UC down, but he's pretty intent on playing for a power five school. He told me, "I know I’m a power five receiver. Whichever power five school comes at me, I’ll be gracious for it." So Donaldson is waiting on a power five school and honestly, there aren't too many I think he'd turn down.

Buuuuut, for the time being, none have offered. His other offers include Middle Tennessee, Tulane, Troy, Colorado State, Georgia Southern and Central Michigan. He called Miami his 'dream school' and said he wishes he could hear from Tennessee, Texas A&M and North Carolina.

Donaldson said he likes Guidugli a lot. He likes how Guidugli has told him UC needs a playmaker and could make a difference right away if he works hard. Donaldson said he also likes the offense, at least, what he's heard.

Donaldson has not visited anywhere this fall. He has an official visit set Jan. 12 to Cincinnati, so that bodes well. But basically, Donaldson has the mindset of waiting as long as possible for power five offers, so that's what to watch. If not, it could well be the Bearcats. If, they're willing to wait. We'll see.

Football Paul Haynes likely headed to Cincinnati to replace Martinez as DB coach

Per Football Scoop

Cincinnati: Source tells FootballScoop Luke Fickell is planning to add former Kent State head coach Paul Haynes to his staff at Cincinnati. In addition to other responsibilities, Haynes would work with the defensive backs we’re told; however we have been told this evening this deal is not done just yet. Sounds as if some other opportunities are on the table as well. Will update….

FB Recruiting ***INsider: Zach Hummel Update***

NOTE: Please do not copy/paste or summarize any portion of this post to other Web sites or message boards, as it is a direct violation of copyright laws. Thank you.

Guys, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Bradley (OH) 2019 TE/DL Zach Hummel Cincinnati offered last Monday. Louisville offered a few days before that and Toledo offered last Tuesday.

Hummel said he visited UC Oct. 21 for the SMU game. Part of that was because his dad, John Hummel, played at SMU in the late 80s, after the Death Penalty was issued there. But Hummel said he's been talking to the Bearcats for a while. Mostly, it's been assistant Al Washington, but he's also talked to defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman, too. He said both coaches have text him and stayed in touch. Both coaches have been in to see Hummel during the most recent recruiting period.

As far as the UC visit, Hummel said he had been to the city multiple times for basketball tournaments and was familiar with the campus. But the biggest thing that stood out was the housing for athletes at UC. He loved how the staff told him how he could graduate early.

The big thing right now is where Hummel might play. He said Louisville offered as a TE, but he's not sure where the offers from Toledo and UC are. It sounds like it's for the D-line, which Hummel thinks it might be for, especially because of the coahces who are recruiting him. It sounds like Hummel would rather play linebacker and H-back, but he said he'll play wherever he needs to.

No visits planed, but it sounds like he also really wants to get to Northwestern soon. He'll be at a lot of junior days also. Full story coming.

***INsider: Another Set To Sign With UC***

NOTE: Please do not copy/paste or summarize any portion of this post to other Web sites or message boards, as it is a direct violation of copyright laws. Thank you.

Guys, as you all know, the start of the first signing period is Wednesday morning. The Bearcats have a big group they can expect to sign and they can count on one more.

Our sources say that German defensive tackle/end Lorenz Metz will 95% sign with UC on Wednesday. He had a top three of Cincinnati, Georgia Tech and UCONN and took his official visit to GT this weekend.

Metz officially visited the Bearcats two weeks ago and it sounds like that visit went really well. But the biggest thing is Cincinnati's cost of attendance, which is one of the highest in the country. it's certainly the highest of the schools Metz is looking at. Metz has a very serious girlfriend still in Germany. I'm told one of the biggest factors for him is being able to fly his girlfriend to as many of his games as possible, so the cost of attendance is a big deal.

Metz has not committed yet and we're told he'll likely announce tomorrow and sign on Wednesday. Metz is already done with high school, so he'd enroll at UC next month for the spring semester.

More coming when available.
