***Commitment*** Willie Goodwyn Announces Commitment

The Bearcats' staff has hinted at multiple commitments from this weekend. But the only one to come out publicly so far is Willie Goodwyn, an unranked DB from Georgia. Chose UC over Georgia Tech, which officially visited last weekend:

FB Recruiting UC's Official Visit Weekend: June 9-11

This is shaping up to be a MASSIVE weekend for the Bearcats and one with a lot of current commits and candidates to commit. I'll keep adding here as more get confirmed, so this will be a running list of official visitors:

***Commitment*** Tyler McKinley to UC

Just a MASSIVE get for UC, which I think has long been considered a favorite. Ohio State also made a run earlier this year. McKinley is from nearby Walnut Hills (OH), but transferred to Link Academy (Mo.) last year for this past season, where he won a national championship in April.

FB Recruiting Will Sanders UPDATE

Guys, I talked again with three-star OL Will Sanders, who visited UC May 25. He had planned official visits to NC State and Duke and sounded like he was close to visiting UC this weekend for an official visit. But he's decided to go a different direction. He camped at Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State last week and weekend and got offers from all three. So as of right now, NC State and Duke are definitely out and it sounds like UC has taken a back seat. I think because he visited so recently, there's hope for the Bearcats. But LSU and Alabama have immediately jumped into the drivers seat. Worth monitoring, but this recruitment has big time turned.

Hoops UC Adds Josh Loeffler as Assistant

Apparently Wes Miller has decided not to renew the two-year contract of assistant coach Mike Roberts, who was on Miller's staff the last 10 years. Roberts has been replaced by former Johns Hopkins assistant Josh Loeffler. Below is the release sent out by UC:

Cincinnati head men's basketball coach Wes Miller announced on Friday the hiring of Josh Loeffler as an assistant coach.

Loeffler, a native of West Grove, Pa., was previously the head coach at Johns Hopkins, where he held a 114-27 record in five seasons (2020-21 canceled due to COVID). He earned his second NABC Region 5 Coach of the Year honor this past season, helping the Blue Jays to their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2015 and second-straight Centennial Conference regular-season title.

Loeffler in 2017 was tasked with replacing 31-year veteran and Hopkins Hall of Famer Bill Nelson, and he immediately led the Blue Jays to an eight-win improvement and their first NCAA Tourney in three years. Loeffler's 114 victories rank second in program history that also includes the legendary Jim Valvano.

"I'm excited to announce Josh Loeffler as a key addition to our staff," Miller said. "He brings a strong head coaching resume to go with a wealth of experience at the Division I level. Josh is one of the bright young minds of college basketball. He thinks and teaches the game with detail and creativity. He also brings a lot of experience working closely with campus leaders and support staff. I believe he is a great addition to our coaching staff as we move to the Big 12."

Loeffler spent nine years at the Division I level before coming to Johns Hopkins. He was an assistant coach at Loyola (Md.) from 2013-17 after spending the 2012-13 campaign at Rutgers as its Director of Operations. Before that, he was a four-year assistant at Lafayette (2008-12).

Johns Hopkins was not his first head coaching experience, either. Loeffler served at the helm for Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. (2006-08), where he guided the Ducks to a school-record 23 wins (23-7) and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, earning NABC and D3hoops.com Atlantic Coach of the Year honors. The following year, Loeffler led Stevens to a 23-6 record, tying the program record for wins in a season and setting the record for best win percentage (.793). \

His first assistant stops included Williams (2005-06), St. Lawrence (2004-05, grad assistant) and Hamilton (2003-04).

Loeffler is a 2003 graduate of Swarthmore College, earning an economics degree. He was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter for the Garnet men's basketball team, while playing one year of football as well. Loeffler is married to the former Helen Leitner, a 2004 Swarthmore graduate and member of the field hockey team. They have two daughters, Alison and Margot.

Guys, I just got off the phone with four-star running back DeJuan Williams. Last week, he dropped a top 8 of UC, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Boston College, Oregon, Stanford, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

First off, Williams has never been to Clifton. He told me the reason why he has the Bearcats in his top group is purely because he likes assistant coach De'Rail Sims so much. Williams said Sims reached out after the first of the year and they've talked steadily since then. He told me he wants to visit UC, but he doesn't have any date or idea when that'll happen. And as is often the case, that's the key thing here. If he doesn't visit, there's no chance. The only other thing Williams knows about the Bearcats is Sauce Gardner. I've heard that a few times. That's the guy a ton of recruits identify with.

Right now, there's really only two schools in play, Maryland and Boston College. The Terps aren't a surprise. Williams lives less than an hour from campus and has visited he told me at least once a month for a while now. And BC is significant because it's a bit further, yet he's made an effort to visit there already and has an official visit set for June 16. Maryland official coming June 23. Williams has been to Oregon, but doesn't sound like there's a ton there for now.

I'd expect at least one more official visit out of one of the top 8. Sounds like it could be UC or Virginia Tech. But again, Maryland and BC are firmly in front right now.

Full story coming.

Dirt Coming Out on Mike Bohn

Seems like there was a pattern of bad behavior, dating back at least to when he was AD at Colorado and again at UC, then USC. Sounds like it wasn't health issues or some coincidence that Bohn resigned at USC. And had he not left when he did, he would have been in some major trouble in Cincinnati.

Guys, I caught up with one of UC's most recent visitors, three-star OL Will Sanders, who visited the Bearcats unofficially last Friday. He told me he's at 21 scholarship offers now, most recently from Ole Miss, while UC's came on March 26.

That was the first time Sanders said he's been to UC and the only visit he's taken since spring practices ended everywhere in April. He told me he loved seeing campus, talking with the academic staff and seeing all the facilities on campus, including the dorms. I like this quote he gave me: "The campus feels like a college campus, but also in the city. It didn’t feel like I’d be at school, it felt like I’d be just going to class, doing what I love." Sanders also liked talking at length with coach Scott Satterfield and said he loved hearing more about the offense.

The main recruiter for the Bearcats here has been assistant coach Nic Cardwell. Sanders told me a couple of times, "He shoots it straight." And he talked quite a bit about how Cardwell is genuine, makes him feel comfortable and at home.

Two official visits set here, to Duke June 16 and NC State June 23, so those are the main two to watch here. UC is trying to get him to visit June 9 and cancel an official he had planned that weekend to South Alabama, but it hasn't happened quite yet. If it does, I think the Bearcats could instantly shoot to the top. It's close to happening, just hasn't happened yet. He told me some good stuff about Duke and NC State, which I'll include in the full story I publish on Sanders, but again, the main thing is to see what he does that June 9 weekend. I do think he'll visit UC that weekend, just hasn't happened quite yet.

Lastly, Sanders told me he wants to commit in August, but if he visits UC June 9, he's absolutely a possibility for a commit. Very interesting to see what happens there.

Full story coming.
